Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons and perioperative team during open heart/CVOR procedures, maintaining focus under pressure
• Prepare and organize the CVOR suite, ensuring all instruments, implants and supplies are ready and sterile
• Maintain strict sterile technique and uphold surgical counts to ensure patient safety
• Anticipate procedural needs and provide instruments and supplies promptly to support efficient flows
• Document intraoperative events and assist with instrument/implant tracking and turnover
• Participate in Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and ongoing professional education
• Collaborate closely with circulating RN, anesthesia, perfusion, and other OR personnel to deliver seamless care
• Support on-call coverage for weekends, responding promptly and professionally when needed

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) — required
• BLS (Basic Life Support) — required
• Open Heart/CVOR experience — required (experience in cardiac surgery and CVOR preferred)
• License/Certificate verification as required by facility
• Ability to complete Trinity specialty competency testing and facility onboarding requirements
• Must meet facility health requirements (fit test, immunizations, PPD/IGRA, drug screen, etc.)
• Comfortable with weekday schedule and weekend on-call rotation

Education

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of CVOR/open heart surgical procedures and instrumentation
• Expertise in sterile technique and surgical counts
• Proficiency in OR setup, turnover, and instrument handling for cardiac cases
• Clear communication and teamwork skills in high-acuity environments
• Attention to detail for implant and instrument verification
• Familiarity with perioperative documentation and facility competency testing
