Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, compassionate labor and delivery nursing care to birthing patients
• Monitor maternal and fetal status using appropriate assessment and fetal monitoring techniques
• Cross-cover med-surg patients when OB census is low, maintaining excellence across both specialties
• Serve as Charge RN on assigned shifts, coordinating team workflow and patient assignments
• Respond promptly to obstetric and neonatal emergencies and escalate per protocol
• Document patient care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
• Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and interdisciplinary staff to create safe care plans
• Educate patients and families on labor progress, postpartum care, and newborn care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa or eligibility for state licensure
• Required: prior Labor & Delivery / OB experience (experience in L&D is a must)
• Med-Surg nursing experience and the ability to float to med-surg as needed
• Charge Nurse experience preferred for assigned charge shifts
• Comfort with 12-hour night rotations, weekends, and holiday coverage
• Current BLS certification required; NRP, ACLS or other OB-related certifications a plus

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; nursing diploma holders considered

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong maternal and fetal assessment skills, including fetal heart rate monitoring interpretation
• Skilled in labor support, postpartum care, and newborn assessment basics
• Solid med-surg nursing skills for cross-coverage duties
• Ability to triage, prioritize, and manage multiple patients in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills with interdisciplinary staff
• Proficient documentation and basic EMR navigation
