Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care to surgical patients before, during, and after procedures
• Maintain and monitor a sterile field and ensure infection prevention practices are followed
• Prepare the operating room, instruments, and supplies; anticipate surgeon needs during cases
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the perioperative team to optimize patient outcomes
• Document patient care accurately and communicate changes in condition to the team
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and unit-based education to enhance patient care

Qualifications

• Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or ability to obtain one
• Experience in the Operating Room (OR) or perioperative environment preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; perioperative certifications (e.g., CNOR) encouraged
• Strong ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced surgical team and adapt to evolving case schedules
• Ability to follow sterile technique, safety protocols, and institutional policies

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid understanding of sterile technique and infection prevention practices
• Familiarity with surgical instrumentation, supplies, and OR workflow
• Effective communication and teamwork skills in a multidisciplinary environment
• Accurate clinical documentation and basic comfort with electronic medical records
• Ability to anticipate procedural needs and prioritize patient safety under pressure
