Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver comprehensive nursing care for patients of all ages in the emergency and acute care setting
- Perform patient assessments, triage, and develop individualized care plans
- Administer medications and treatments safely and according to provider orders
- Document patient care accurately in the electronic medical record and transcribe physician orders
- Make independent clinical decisions during your shift and escalate complex issues to leadership as needed
- Supervise and delegate to CNA/Tech staff, ensuring safe, high-quality care
- Maintain infection control standards and promote patient safety at all times
- Participate in department meetings, training, and quality improvement activities
- Manage admissions, discharges, and transfers with professionalism and thorough documentation
- Maintain supplies and equipment levels and report needs to leadership
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or another U.S. state (agency staff must hold an active Alaska license; direct hires must have applied for Alaska license before start)
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained biannually
- Clinical Competency Assessment and High Risk Competency per employer timelines (Clinical Competency within 3 months and every three years; High Risk Competency within 3 months and annually)
- TNCC preferred and required for ED nurses
- Ability to work independently, make sound clinical judgments in emergencies, and supervise support staff
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact compassionately with patients, families, and team members
- No prior experience required, though acute care, ED, or long-term care experience is preferred
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing: Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid knowledge of nursing and medical procedures, infection control, and documentation standards
- Skill in patient assessment, medication administration, and care planning
- Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record systems and accurate charting practices
- Ability to interpret policies, follow provider orders, and maintain patient confidentiality
- Competence in emergency response, patient lifting and safe body mechanics
- Leadership skills for supervising and training department personnel
