Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert peri-procedural nursing care in the cardiac cath lab, including support for structural heart procedures such as TAVR
• Monitor procedural sedation, maintain IV therapy, and administer emergency medications as needed
• Prepare patients and assist the interventional cardiology team with complex catheter-based procedures
• Perform sheath removal, topical hemostasis and vascular closure support, and closely monitor post-procedure recovery
• Troubleshoot and respond to acute changes using ACLS protocols and advanced cardiac life support skills
• Document care and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, patients and families
• Float to other UCSF facilities as needed to meet patient care needs and support unit operations

Qualifications

• Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 5 years of experience in Cardiac Cath or Interventional Cardiology
• Hands-on experience with Structural Heart procedures and TAVR is required
• Comfort with a broad range of cath lab procedures and ability to manage high-acuity patients
• Travel experience or prior float experience required

Education

• Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license

Knowledge & Skills

• Cardiac cath lab procedures including diagnostic and interventional catheterizations
• Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) and structural heart knowledge
• Procedural sedation monitoring and airway/ventilator familiarity
• Vascular closure systems, topical hemostasis and sheath removal techniques
• IV therapy, central line assistance and blood product administration
• ECG/12-lead interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring and use of Swan-Ganz lines
• Familiarity with emergency meds, antiarrhythmics, IV vasopressors and thrombolytics
• Infection prevention, isolation precautions and PPE best practices
