Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments with care and professionalism
- Conduct primarily interview-based evaluations and perform focused physical assessments such as range of motion and muscle strength testing
- Use a goniometer and other assessment tools to document musculoskeletal findings accurately
- Evaluate and diagnose respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological conditions when relevant to the exam
- Complete standardized Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) and submit them in VES's provider portal within required timelines
- Review medical records as needed to support evaluations and form accurate medical opinions
- Complete follow-up administrative tasks including addendums, medical opinions, and reading diagnostics
- Participate in required training (DMA certification and PEP session) to maintain privilege and quality standards
Qualifications
- Active medical degree and clinical background in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine
- Experience with compensation and pension exams preferred or willingness to learn
- Comfort performing musculoskeletal exams, including goniometer measurements and muscle strength testing
- Proficient in evaluating diabetes, cardiology, and METs testing concepts; able to assess respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological issues
- Willingness to complete DMA certification and the 2-hour PEP training prior to first cases
- Own a personal laptop (no Macs) to access the secure provider portal
- Strong documentation skills and ability to complete standardized DBQs within required timeframes
Education
- MD or DO (physician-level medical degree required)
Knowledge & Skills

- Provider portal navigation (VES) and electronic submission workflows
- Range of motion testing and use of a goniometer
- Muscle strength testing and basic musculoskeletal assessment techniques
- Record review and formulation of clear medical opinions and addendums
- Ability to evaluate respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological conditions
- Interview-based exam techniques and focused physical exam documentation
