Shift Type: As-needed / on-call scheduling with flexible daytime appointments (no fixed start/end times). Initial scheduling typically limited to about 5-10 Veterans every two weeks while you ramp up; option to cover shifts at VES leased facilities or schedule Veterans in your own office (must be within 50 miles of Birmingham).

Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform initial PTSD examinations and follow-up PTSD exams for Veterans with care and professionalism
• Complete and submit standardized DBQs (reporting forms) within 48 hours of exam completion
• Conduct required medical record review to inform accurate and timely evaluations
• Enter evaluations and supporting documentation in VES’s secure provider portal
• Participate in DMA certification and required PEP onboarding sessions to ensure high-quality reporting
• Collaborate with the New Provider Liaison and Report Analysts to refine documentation and workflow
• Provide in-person evaluations either at a leased VES facility or within your own approved practice
• Travel to other locations when needed and approved, supporting Veterans across regions

Qualifications

• Active medical license (MD or DO) to practice in the relevant state
• Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry preferred (Psychiatry experience required)
• Demonstrated experience performing PTSD exams and completing DBQs for Veterans
• Ability to submit DBQs within 48 hours and follow VES documentation standards
• Own an office within 50 miles of Birmingham if planning to see Veterans in your private practice
• Own a personal laptop (Windows; no Macs) for portal access and reporting
• Willingness to complete DMA certification and required PEP training prior to active scheduling
• Familiarity with credentialing/privileging processes and comfortable providing required office photos/OSHA form

Education

• MD or DO (licensed to practice medicine)
• Residency training in Psychiatry preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical assessment skills for PTSD and related mental health conditions
• Proficiency with standardized DBQs and structured reporting
• Experience conducting medical record review to inform evaluations
• Comfort using secure web portals and teleconferencing tools (Zoom/Microsoft Teams) for training and coordination
• Excellent written communication to produce clear, concise standardized reports
• Organizational skills to meet tight documentation timelines and manage sporadic scheduling
