Roles & Responsibilities

• Interpret and sign out surgical pathology and cytology cases with accuracy and clinical context
• Provide diagnostic expertise across GI, GU, neuropathology, and dermatopathology specimen types
• Use PowerPath and Cerner to document findings, generate reports, and communicate results
• Collaborate closely with pathologists, histotechnologists, cytotechnologists, and pathology assistants to ensure efficient lab operations
• Maintain laboratory quality and compliance with CAP, CLIA, and AABB standards during coverage
• Review and manage an expected daily case volume of approximately 30 cases while ensuring diagnostic quality

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree (required)
• Board certified or board eligible in Anatomic Pathology
• Eligible for or holding medical licensure in New Jersey (ability to obtain state license required for start)
• Proven experience in surgical pathology and cytology; comfortable managing ~30 cases per day
• Proficiency with PowerPath and Cerner electronic documentation systems
• Familiarity with ThinPrep methodology and cytology preparation
• Hands-on experience with Thermo Scientific Cryostat and Olympus microscopes preferred
• Experience working in or supporting a Level 1 trauma center is a plus
• Willingness to start as soon as credentialed (locum-to-perm assignment)

Education

• MD or DO (required)
• Residency training in Anatomic Pathology (required)
• Fellowship training in a pathology subspecialty preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong diagnostic skills in surgical/anatomic pathology and cytology
• Subspecialty knowledge in GI, GU, neuropathology, and dermatopathology
• Comfortable using PowerPath and Cerner for electronic sign-out and reporting
• Practical skills with cryostat use and light microscopy (Olympus)
• Understanding of laboratory accreditation and regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIA, AABB)
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills when working with multidisciplinary clinical teams and lab staff
