Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments with compassion and precision
• Conduct interview-based evaluations supplemented by focused physical assessments such as range of motion and muscle strength testing
• Complete standardized Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) within required timelines (submit within 48 hours)
• Review medical records thoroughly to inform exam findings and recommended documentation
• Use a goniometer and METs testing as part of objective assessments
• Document findings in the VES provider portal and complete any required addendums or medical opinions
• Participate in required onboarding and PEP/portal training to ensure consistent, high-quality reports
• Coordinate scheduling and communicate effectively with VES staff and Veterans, maintaining professionalism at all times

Qualifications

• Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) or equivalent advanced practice provider credential
• Background in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine preferred
• Experience with compensation & pension exams is a strong plus, or willingness to be trained
• Comfort performing musculoskeletal assessments, ROM and muscle strength testing, and using a goniometer
• Ability to evaluate and document respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological conditions
• Reliable personal laptop (Windows only; no Macs) and ability to complete portal-based documentation
• Willingness to obtain DMA certification once privileged and to complete required PEP/portal training
• Ability to submit DBQs and final reports within 48 hours of exam completion

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency with DBQs and standardized reporting workflows
• Strong clinical assessment skills including interview-based evaluations
• Hands-on skills: range of motion testing, muscle strength testing, METs testing, use of goniometer
• Medical record review and synthesis for disability-related evaluations
• Familiarity with musculoskeletal conditions, diabetes, cardiovascular and respiratory evaluation, and basic neurological assessment
• Comfort using secure provider portals and virtual training platforms (Zoom/Microsoft Teams)
• Attention to documentation detail and ability to complete administrative follow-up (addendums, diagnostics, medical opinions)
