Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, color-flow Doppler and transesophageal echocardiography accurately and efficiently
• Conduct exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography and other cardiac stress tests as ordered
• Perform EKGs, prepare and analyze Holter monitoring studies, and ensure accurate cardiac diagnostic testing
• Operate and maintain echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs, Holter monitors, and associated computer analysis tools
• Coordinate with hospital information systems for scheduling, processing, and correct charging of studies
• Implement infection control practices and proper disinfection of equipment
• Provide age-specific care across the lifespan, including neonatal and pediatric patients
• Serve as a clinical resource and preceptor for students and staff, providing professional guidance and instruction

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience required
• Preferred: Certificate in Cardiovascular Sonography and extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Demonstrated experience with pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
• Comfortable providing preceptorship and clinical instruction to students

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong skills in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, including Doppler and M-Mode
• Experience with exercise and pharmacologic stress testing
• Proficiency with EKG/ECG acquisition and Holter setup and analysis
• Ability to use cardiac diagnostic equipment and computer analysis software
• Knowledge of infection control and aseptic techniques for equipment disinfection
• Comfort providing age-specific cardiac care, including neonatal and pediatric populations
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with physicians and nursing staff
