Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist physicians in performing colonoscopies and upper GI endoscopies with confidence and precision
• Administer and monitor conscious sedation, including cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition
• Provide high-quality pre-op and post-op care in two pre-op rooms and three recovery bays
• Maintain strict medical and surgical asepsis during all procedures
• Start and maintain IVs, obtain 12-lead EKGs when indicated, and manage airway emergencies as needed
• Chart thoroughly and efficiently in Epic for approximately 30 patients per day
• Handle specimen labeling, equipment setup, and troubleshooting for specialized endoscopy tools
• Prioritize patient privacy, education, and compassionate care throughout the patient journey
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and travel between endoscopy/GI areas as needed

Qualifications

• Valid California RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience with endoscopy/GI or similar procedural area
• Current BLS and ACLS from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
• Experience with conscious sedation and cardiac monitoring; ability to identify dysrhythmias
• Epic charting experience required
• Proven ability to start/maintain IVs and obtain 12-lead EKGs
• CGRN and prior teaching hospital experience preferred but not required
• Professional, patient-centered communication and teamwork skills

Education

• BSN preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing considered with relevant endoscopy experience

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient with Epic and general EMR workflows
• Comfortable using Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email and web-based systems
• Knowledge of pharmacology, drug interactions, opioid analgesics and reversal agents
• Familiarity with endoscopy equipment including polyp snares, forceps, electrosurgical units and balloon dilators
• Skilled in monitoring and recovering patients from conscious sedation and monitored anesthesia care
• Specimen handling and labeling best practices
• Strong infection control and asepsis practices
