Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room and surgical instruments to maintain a safe, sterile environment
• Assist the surgical team during procedures by anticipating needs and passing instruments
• Maintain strict sterile technique and perform instrument counts accurately
• Set up, troubleshoot, and break down instrumentation and sterile fields efficiently
• Communicate clearly with nurses, surgeons, and support staff to ensure smooth case flow
• Document perioperative activities and assist with turnover between cases
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training to maintain high standards of care

Qualifications

• Certified or trained Surgical Technologist (CST preferred or completion of accredited program)
• Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain prior to first shift
• Prior OR or surgical technologist experience preferred but enthusiastic, well-trained candidates are welcome
• Ability to pass facility-required background checks and health screenings
• Strong teamwork, attention to detail, and reliable attendance for scheduled shifts
• Willingness to complete orientation at the Shriners Dayton facility

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent training
• High school diploma or GED required

Knowledge & Skills

• Familiarity with sterile technique, instrument identification, and surgical setup
• Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and work calmly under pressure
• Basic knowledge of perioperative documentation and instrument count procedures
• Good communication skills and professional bedside manner in a pediatric setting
• Comfort working in a fast-paced operating room environment with diverse procedures
