Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare operating rooms with proper sterile instruments and supplies so each procedure runs smoothly
• Assist surgeons and the surgical team by passing instruments and anticipating needs during cases
• Maintain strict sterile technique and adhere to infection control policies to protect patients
• Inspect and manage surgical instruments and equipment before, during and after procedures
• Participate in orientation and training, sharing best practices and learning facility-specific protocols
• Communicate clearly with nursing and surgical staff to coordinate efficient case flow
• Document case details and instrument counts accurately to ensure patient safety and compliance

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred or equivalent surgical tech certification
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or willingness to obtain during orientation
• Prior OR experience preferred; pediatric experience is a plus given the children's facility setting
• Demonstrated ability to maintain sterile technique and work in fast-paced surgical environments
• Strong teamwork, communication skills and a patient-focused attitude
• Ability to complete orientation and comply with facility onboarding requirements

Education

• Diploma or certificate in Surgical Technology or Associate degree in Surgical Technology

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and sterile field setup
• Familiarity with operating room protocols and infection control standards
• Skillful instrument handling and anticipation of surgical team needs
• Ability to perform accurate instrument/sponge counts and documentation
• Comfort working in pediatric surgical environments and supporting specialized procedures
• Basic electronic health record (EHR) documentation skills preferred
