Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain the sterile field and operating room environment with attention to detail
• Set up instruments, supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures
• Assist surgeons and perioperative staff during operations by passing instruments and anticipating needs
• Perform instrument and sponge counts and document accurately to support patient safety
• Ensure proper labeling, handling and tracking of surgical specimens
• Support safe patient positioning and transport to and from the OR
• Participate in orientation activities and collaborate with the team to continuously improve workflow

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or completion of an accredited surgical tech program, or equivalent experience
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or willingness to obtain
• Comfort working in a fast-paced OR environment and following strict sterile technique
• Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with surgeons, nurses and other perioperative staff
• Orientation attendance required as part of onboarding

Education

• High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• In-depth knowledge of surgical instruments and sterile processing
• Proficient in sterile technique and infection control practices
• Accurate instrument/sponge count procedures and documentation
• Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and respond quickly
• Teamwork, adaptability and strong attention to patient safety
