Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and treat speech, language, and swallowing disorders through direct patient care—help patients communicate more clearly and swallow more safely.
• Develop clear, individualized plans of care and treatment plans that guide patient progress and outcomes.
• Complete thorough clinical documentation including initial evaluations, progress notes, plans of care, and discharge summaries—accuracy matters.
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, dietitians, and other team members to deliver patient-centered care and coordinated treatment.
• Provide patient and family education, offer guidance after evaluations, and support navigation of hospital processes.
• Prepare for evaluation and therapy sessions, including clean-up of treatment rooms and implementation of infection control practices.
• Contact insurers regarding benefits and authorizations to help ensure continuity of care.
• Create and deliver in-service presentations and educational opportunities to staff to spread best practices and current research.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program (professional degree required).
• Eligible for and must hold/maintain a Wisconsin Speech-Language Pathologist license.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
• Valid, current driver's license required.
• 1+ years of related clinical experience preferred; hospital experience is a strong plus.
• Strong attention to detail, solid documentation skills, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Education

• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology (from an accredited program)

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical assessment and treatment of speech, language, and swallowing (dysphagia) disorders.
• Treatment planning and development of plans of care with measurable goals.
• Clinical documentation: evaluations, progress reporting, and discharge planning.
• Intermediate computer proficiency for charting and electronic records.
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills for assessment interpretation.
• Excellent interpersonal communication, patient education, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to create and deliver in-service training and educational materials to staff.
