Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, compassionate direct nursing care to patients in the step-down unit
• Monitor and assess patient status using telemetry and other monitoring tools, and intervene as needed
• Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, and families to develop and implement care plans
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately while maintaining clear documentation
• Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and escalate concerns through appropriate channels
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, procedures, and discharge plans to support recovery
• Participate in unit quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with policies and regulatory standards

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or compact RN license as applicable
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred or willing to obtain
• Experience caring for step-down, telemetry, or medically complex patients preferred
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and prioritization skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment and maintain professional communication

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Familiarity with step-down unit workflows and escalation pathways
• Medication administration and intravenous therapy skills
• Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation proficiency
• Strong patient education and family communication skills
• Time management, clinical judgment, and delegation skills
