Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in the Step Down Unit (SDU)
• Monitor and assess patient status, recognizing and reporting changes promptly
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
• Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, and families to coordinate care
• Document patient care thoroughly and timely in the medical record
• Participate in bedside shift reports and contribute to a culture of safety
• Support patient education and discharge planning to ensure smooth transitions

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or compact RN license that covers LA
• Experience or familiarity working in a Step Down Unit or telemetry/acute care setting preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS preferred or willingness to obtain
• Comfort managing patients requiring close monitoring and escalating care when needed
• Strong clinical judgment, reliable attendance, and the ability to work 12.5-hour shifts

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) - BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in patient assessment and early recognition of clinical deterioration
• Telemetry and cardiac rhythm interpretation experience preferred
• Effective verbal and written communication with patients and the care team
• Proficient in accurate medication administration and IV therapy
• Competent documentation in electronic medical records and safe clinical documentation practices
• Ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage multiple patients in a fast-paced environment
