Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide skilled, compassionate nursing care to patients in the Step-Down Unit (SDU)
• Continuously assess and monitor patient status, recognizing changes and escalating appropriately
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and the interdisciplinary care team to develop and implement care plans
• Maintain clear, timely documentation in the patient record
• Support patient and family education to improve outcomes and satisfaction
• Participate in unit-based initiatives to improve quality, safety, and patient experience

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure — Louisiana RN preferred or eligible
• Experience working in a Step-Down Unit (SDU) or similar acute care setting
• Comfort working 12.5-hour shift blocks and adapting to unit needs
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
• Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or willingness to obtain (if required by facility)

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and monitoring with attention to subtle clinical changes
• Skilled at medication administration and clinical documentation
• Effective communication and collaboration within interdisciplinary teams
• Time management, prioritization, and the ability to work in a fast-paced acute care environment
• Familiarity with electronic health record systems and hospital workflows
