Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate, high-quality nursing care to step-down unit patients.
• Continuously assess patient condition and intervene appropriately.
• Administer medications and complex treatments safely and accurately.
• Monitor telemetry and hemodynamic status; respond to changes promptly.
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members for coordinated care.
• Document patient care clearly and timely in the electronic health record.
• Educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
• Participate in unit-based performance improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license in Louisiana or compact license eligibility preferred
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) preferred
• Previous experience in a step-down unit, telemetry, or critical care environment preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced setting
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required or Diploma in Nursing; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Post-op and progressive care patient management
• IV medication administration and infusion pump competency
• Proficient documentation in electronic health records
• Clinical judgment, critical thinking, and rapid assessment
• Teamwork, patient/family education, and effective communication
