Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in the Step-Down Unit (SDU)
• Monitor and assess patients’ clinical status, recognizing changes and escalating appropriately
• Administer medications, treatments, and interventions safely and accurately
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the multidisciplinary team to implement care plans
• Provide clear, compassionate patient and family education and discharge planning
• Document patient care thoroughly and timely in the electronic health record
• Support unit flow by assisting with admissions, transfers, and timely handoffs

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for Louisiana (or compact privileges where applicable)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required; ACLS preferred or required per facility policy
• Experience in a Step-Down Unit, progressive care, or acute care setting preferred
• Strong assessment skills and comfort managing telemetry/acuity between ICU and med-surg
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical thinking abilities

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in patient assessment and monitoring of changing clinical conditions
• Familiarity with telemetry and intermediate/step-down care protocols
• Skilled at medication administration and IV therapy
• Comfortable with electronic health record documentation
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work well in a fast-paced clinical environment
