Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, evidence-based nursing care to step-down unit patients with clinical judgment and compassion
• Monitor and assess patient condition, intervening promptly and coordinating with the interdisciplinary team
• Administer medications and treatments safely, following facility protocols and documentation standards
• Communicate clearly with patients and families to explain care plans and provide emotional support
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and support staff to ensure smooth transitions of care
• Participate in orientation and unit-based education to maintain high standards of practice

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license — ability to practice in Louisiana required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Previous clinical experience in a step-down, telemetry, or critical care setting is preferred
• Strong patient assessment and monitoring skills with attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
• Ability to complete required orientation and competency validation

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in patient assessment, telemetry monitoring, and recognizing clinical changes
• Familiarity with medication administration best practices and safety checks
• Skillful documentation in electronic health records and clear handoff communication
• Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment
• Team-oriented approach with strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
