Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare pediatric patients for surgery with calm, thorough pre-operative assessments
• Administer medications and assist with IV starts as ordered, following safety protocols
• Provide family-centered education and reassurance to caregivers before procedures
• Collaborate closely with the surgical team and anesthesia to ensure smooth handoffs
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient status accurately and timely
• Identify and escalate any clinical concerns to the appropriate provider promptly
• Participate in orientation and training to maintain high standards of pediatric pre-op care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri or a nurse compact license that covers MO
• Experience or strong interest in pediatric nursing and pre-operative care
• Current BLS certification; pediatric-specific certifications encouraged
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced perioperative/pre-op environment
• Strong communication skills for working with children, families, and interdisciplinary teams
• Ability to complete required orientation and competency assessments

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication techniques
• Pre-op preparation protocols and documentation standards
• Safe medication administration and basic IV skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with surgical, anesthesia, and perioperative staff
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
