Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate pre-operative nursing care tailored to pediatric patients
• Perform thorough pre-op assessments and document findings clearly in the patient record
• Prepare patients and families by educating them on procedures, expectations, and comfort measures
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and perioperative staff to ensure safe, timely care
• Assist with pre-op tasks such as vital signs, IV starts, medication reconciliation, and safety checks
• Participate actively in orientation and ongoing training to maintain high standards of care

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri or compact RN eligible
• Experience or strong interest in pediatrics and pre-operative nursing
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Comfortable working with children and communicating effectively with families
• Ability to pass facility credentialing and background checks

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of pediatric pre-op routines, safety checks, and patient comfort techniques
• Skill in conducting age-appropriate assessments and documenting accurately
• Strong interpersonal skills for working with kids, families, and multidisciplinary teams
• Familiarity with standard infection control practices and perioperative protocols
• Comfort using electronic medical records and following policy-driven workflows
