Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare pediatric patients for surgery with calm, efficient pre-operative care
• Conduct focused pre-op assessments and document findings in the chart
• Educate patients and families about pre-op instructions and what to expect
• Coordinate with surgical teams, anesthesia, and support staff for smooth handoffs
• Ensure adherence to infection control and safety protocols in the pre-op area
• Assist with patient positioning, IV starts, and medication administration as appropriate
• Participate in orientation activities and share knowledge with peers

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri (required)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred
• Experience or strong interest in pre-operative nursing and pediatric care preferred
• Comfortable with pediatric patient assessment, family education, and perioperative workflows
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric patient care and age-appropriate communication
• Pre-operative assessment and preparation processes
• Familiarity with perioperative safety and infection control practices
• EHR documentation best practices and clear charting
• IV starts, medication administration, and basic perioperative procedures
• Teamwork, organization, and patient/family education skills
