Contract Type: Per-Diem

Shift Type: 4-hour shifts (specific start/end times and days to be determined by unit schedule); orientation included

Candidate Pay Rate: $49 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

Assess pediatric patients in the pre-operative setting and document findings clearly
Prepare children and families for procedures with compassionate, age-appropriate education
Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiology, and perioperative staff to ensure smooth handoffs
Monitor patients for changes and escalate concerns promptly to the care team
Maintain accurate, timely charting and adherence to pre-op protocols and infection prevention standards
Support a family-centered care approach to reduce anxiety and improve the patient experience

Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure (required)
Experience in pediatrics and/or pre-operative nursing (highlighted skills: Pre-op, Pediatrics)
Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; pediatric-specific certifications (e.g., PALS) a plus
Comfort with pediatric assessment, family education, and perioperative workflows
Strong communication and teamwork skills in fast-paced surgical environments

Knowledge & Skills

Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication techniques
Pre-operative screening, preparation, and perioperative safety practices
Ability to collaborate effectively with surgical and anesthesia teams
Accurate clinical documentation and familiarity with electronic health records
Patient/family education, advocacy, and calming techniques for children
