Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate pre-operative nursing care for pediatric patients, preparing them for a safe surgical experience
• Assess patients and families, perform pre-op teaching, and ensure accurate documentation before procedures
• Collaborate with the surgical team to verify readiness and pre-op orders, medications, and consents
• Monitor and communicate patient status changes promptly to the care team
• Support families with clear, age-appropriate explanations and emotional reassurance
• Participate in orientation and unit-based training to maintain high standards of pediatric perioperative care

Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts (or compact license as applicable)
• Experience in pre-operative and/or pediatric nursing preferred
• BLS required; PALS and perioperative certifications preferred when available
• Comfort working with children and their families in a perioperative setting
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; reliable and patient-centered
• Willingness to complete required orientation

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of pediatric assessment and age-appropriate care techniques
• Understanding of pre-operative protocols, medication administration, and documentation
• Ability to educate and support families before procedures
• Good prioritization and time-management skills in a fast-paced OR/pre-op environment
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and perioperative charting
