Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform pre-operative assessments and age-appropriate pediatric screenings
• Prepare pediatric patients and families for surgery with calm, clear communication
• Monitor and document vital signs and patient status prior to procedures
• Ensure safety and infection control practices are followed in the pre-op area
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and perioperative teams to coordinate care
• Provide emotional support and education to caregivers and children
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the patient record and handoffs

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri or compact RN licensure where applicable
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Experience in pre-operative nursing and/or pediatrics strongly preferred
• Comfort working with children and communicating effectively with families
• Ability to pass required background checks, health screenings, and immunizations

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of pre-operative assessment and pediatric vital sign norms
• Strong patient and family communication skills
• Familiarity with perioperative workflows and documentation
• Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced surgical environment
• Teamwork and collaboration with multidisciplinary surgical teams
