Roles & Responsibilities

Perform thorough pre-operative assessments for pediatric patients
Prepare children and families for procedures through clear, compassionate education
Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to ensure smooth handoffs
Monitor and document vital signs, allergies, medications, and pre-op consent details
Ensure a safe, child-friendly environment and apply pediatric-specific safety practices
Participate in orientation and ongoing training to maintain high standards of care

Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
Experience in pediatric nursing or pre-operative/perioperative settings strongly preferred
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with children and families
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication
Pre-op protocols, documentation, and safety checks
Familiarity with electronic health record systems and sterile technique
Patient and family education tailored to pediatric needs
Team-based coordination with surgical and anesthesia teams
Infection control and medication administration best practices
