Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, family-centered critical care to pediatric patients in the PICU
- Monitor and assess patient condition, recognizing and acting on changes quickly
- Administer medications and therapies safely and accurately
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary team members to optimize care plans
- Document patient care and communicate clearly in the electronic health record
- Participate in unit orientation and help precept new staff and colleagues
- Educate families and caregivers, offering compassionate support during stressful times
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and unit-based projects
Qualifications
- Current RN licensure (California licensure expected for Sacramento facility)
- Clinical experience or interest in pediatric critical care (PICU)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; PALS or ACLS preferred or willing to obtain
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to participate in orientation and unit-specific training
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Pediatric critical care nursing principles and best practices
- Familiarity with ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, and vasoactive infusions
- Medication administration and IV therapy expertise
- Skilled in patient/family education and emotional support
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-acuity environments
- Competency with electronic health record documentation
