Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor adult and geriatric PCU patients, adjusting care plans as conditions change
• Titrate drips (e.g., Cardizem, beta blockers, seizure meds) safely and per protocol
• Document assessments and interventions accurately in EPIC
• Collaborate with the charge nurse and interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care
• Supervise and work alongside patient care techs and nurse aides to ensure safe ratios and quality care
• Recognize and respond to acute changes, escalating appropriately and initiating interventions
• Participate in unit onboarding and complete the open-book competency exam during orientation

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Nebraska or eligibility to obtain one
• BLS, ACLS and NIHSS certifications required at time of submission
• Minimum 2 years of acute care experience (PCU/stepdown, med-surg, or ICU experience preferred)
• Proven experience with drip titration and adult/geriatric cardiac, nephrology, stroke, and diabetes care
• Comfortable charting in EPIC and working with continuous EEG monitoring documentation
• Valid driver’s license required at submittal (radius rule applies)
• Willingness to comply with facility clinical policies (e.g., artificial nails prohibited) and pass the orientation competency (90% required)

Education

• Active RN license required
• Associate degree in Nursing accepted; BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills for stepdown care
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic charting
• Experience with titratable IV drips and cardiac/seizure medications
• Knowledge of cardiac, nephrology, stroke, and diabetes patient care needs
• Comfort working with continuous EEG monitoring
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and bedside leadership
• Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced unit with 1:4-5 ratios
