Roles & Responsibilities

Provide skilled post-anesthesia care for pediatric patients in the PACU
Closely monitor vital signs and recovery from anesthesia
Assess and manage pain, nausea, and other post-op symptoms
Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
Communicate clearly and compassionately with families and caregivers
Document patient status and interventions in the medical record
Collaborate with anesthesia, surgery, and pediatric teams to ensure smooth transitions
Support unit orientation and help mentor new team members

Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts or eligible to obtain
Experience or interest in PACU nursing, especially pediatrics
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; PALS and ACLS preferred
Comfortable with pediatric assessment and post-anesthesia care
Ability to pass required background checks and credentialing
Strong communication skills and a patient- and family-centered approach

Education

Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred, ADN/ASN considered

Knowledge & Skills

Post-anesthesia assessment and recovery procedures
Pediatric airway and pain management basics
Intravenous therapy and medication administration
Monitoring equipment and interpretation of vital signs
Clear, empathetic communication with children and families
Accurate clinical documentation and teamwork in a fast-paced unit
