Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and stabilize post-anesthesia patients, prioritizing safety and comfort
• Monitor vital signs, pain levels, and recovery milestones with excellent attention to detail
• Administer medications and IV therapies as ordered, ensuring accurate documentation
• Collaborate closely with anesthesia, surgical teams, and interdisciplinary staff for seamless handoffs
• Educate patients and families on recovery expectations and discharge instructions
• Document patient progress and communicate changes promptly to the care team
• Advocate for patient needs while maintaining a calm, efficient PACU environment

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Louisiana
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Prior experience or strong interest in Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nursing
• Excellent clinical assessment skills and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced setting
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred but not required.

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia patient assessment and recovery protocols
• Airway management and basic respiratory support
• Pain management principles and safe opioid administration
• IV insertion and infusion therapy management
• Accurate clinical documentation and effective handoff communication
• Ability to work calmly under pressure and respond to emergencies
