Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, expert post-anesthesia care to adult and pediatric patients in PACU
• Monitor patients’ vital signs and recovery status, intervening promptly when needed
• Assess pain and comfort levels and collaborate with the care team on pain management plans
• Perform thorough handoffs with anesthesia and surgical teams to ensure continuity of care
• Educate patients and families on immediate post-operative instructions and recovery expectations
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient progress clearly and timely in the medical record
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and safety initiatives to enhance patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana (required)
• Experience in PACU or post-anesthesia care preferred
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS strongly preferred or obtainable upon hire
• Strong patient assessment, triage, and critical thinking skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced perioperative environment and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
• Excellent communication skills and patient-focused bedside manner

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of post-anesthesia emergence and recovery protocols
• Skill in monitoring and interpreting cardiac, respiratory, and neurological status
• Familiarity with pain management strategies and multimodal analgesia
• Competence with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
• Ability to respond quickly to changes in patient condition and escalate appropriately
