Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide focused post-anesthesia nursing care to help patients safely recover from surgery
- Assess and monitor patients’ vital signs and recovery status, intervening as needed
- Administer medications and manage IV therapy according to orders and protocols
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative teams for smooth handoffs
- Educate patients and families about recovery, pain management and discharge instructions
- Document patient care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) credential (must meet facility licensure requirements)
- Experience or training in PACU/post-anesthesia care (orientation is provided)
- BLS certification required; ACLS as required by facility or unit
- Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to respond quickly in recovery situations
- Ability to complete facility orientation and any required onboarding
Education
- Nursing diploma/ADN or BSN (as required for RN licensure)
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of post-anesthesia care processes and standards
- Proficiency in patient monitoring and pain management
- Familiarity with IV medications and acute post-op interventions
- Comfortable with electronic medical record documentation
- Strong communication, teamwork and patient advocacy skills
