Shift Type: Rotating day shifts (typical Monday-Friday pattern with rotating weekends/on-call). Typical start 6:30 AM with 8-, 10- or 12-hour options: 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM (8-hr), 6:30 AM - 4:30 PM (10-hr), 6:30 AM - 6:30 PM (12-hr). Common schedule format is 4x10s with every-other-weekend call. Occasional 5:30 AM starts if surgeon scheduling requires. Weeknight on-call ~1x/week (approx 6:00 PM - 6:30 AM) and weekend call roughly 3 times/month. Day shift / rotating

Roles & Responsibilities

• Circulate for a wide variety of cases including neuro, total joint arthroplasty, major vascular, robotics, general, GYN, urology, plastics and pediatric surgeries
• Provide safe, efficient perioperative patient care and coordinate case turnovers across multiple OR rooms
• Serve as charge nurse on day shifts when assigned and collaborate with house supervisor after hours
• Respond to on-call assignments with a 30-minute response time and be prepared to support cases during evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Float between non-cardiothoracic OR rooms as needed while maintaining excellence in patient care
• Use Cerner for charting and documentation to ensure accurate, timely records
• Partner with surgical techs, RNFAs, anesthesia aides and nursing assistants to maintain smooth workflow and patient safety
• Support pediatric cases with confidence and competence when assigned

Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license (able to work in California)
• Minimum 2 years RN experience required; 3 years preferred as noted
• Previous travel nursing experience required; no first-time travelers
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
• Experience circulating in an OR setting; pediatric circulating experience required (CVOR excluded)
• Familiarity with Cerner or similar EMR required
• Comfortable with high-volume OR settings and a broad case mix; RNFA familiarity is a plus

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong OR nursing and circulating skills
• Knowledge of neuro, total joint, vascular, robotics, general, GYN, urology, plastics and pediatric surgical workflows
• Proficient in perioperative documentation in Cerner
• Excellent situational awareness and ability to manage turnover and equipment needs
• Able to collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams and lead when serving as charge nurse
• Calm, decisive on-call performance with a reliable 30-minute response capability
