Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to oncology and post-surgical patients on a medical-surgical oncology unit
• Administer and monitor chemotherapy and other treatments safely, following unit protocols and standards
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to create and update individualized patient care plans
• Assess patient condition, intervene appropriately, and escalate concerns to providers in a timely manner
• Document patient care accurately in Cerner and maintain clear communication with patients and families
• Perform procedures typical to the unit such as pelvic exams, assisting with echoes, and thoracentesis support when needed
• Maintain safe patient ratios and prioritize care tasks to support a 1:4 or 1:5 assignment structure
• Act as a team player, supporting colleagues, mentoring newer staff, and contributing to a positive work environment

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the appropriate jurisdiction
• Minimum 2 years of recent nursing experience (experience in oncology or med-surg preferred)
• BLS certification required
• Chemo certification preferred and will make candidates more competitive
• Comfort with Cerner EMR and standard unit equipment
• Ability to work night rotations and scheduled weekends

Knowledge & Skills

• Oncology nursing principles and safe chemotherapy administration
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical record documentation
• Strong assessment and clinical decision-making skills
• Experience in med-surgical care and managing common unit procedures
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and patient education abilities
• Familiarity with typical oncology patient ratios (1:4 or 1:5) and workload prioritization
