Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to patients in the Neuro Stepdown unit
• Assess and monitor neuro status and vital signs, responding quickly to changes
• Administer medications and treatments accurately and safely
• Interpret telemetry and neuro monitoring to guide care decisions
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and the interdisciplinary team to create and implement individualized care plans
• Document patient care clearly and promptly in the electronic medical record
• Educate patients and families about conditions, treatments, and discharge planning
• Support unit goals by participating in quality improvement and safety initiatives

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or eligibility for licensure
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Experience in Neuro Stepdown, stepdown/SDU, or telemetry nursing preferred
• Comfort with critical thinking, rapid assessment, and effective communication with multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shifts in a fast-paced clinical environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Neuro assessment and monitoring skills (NIH stroke scale familiarity helpful)
• Telemetry and cardiac rhythm recognition
• IV medication administration and infusion pump management
• Strong clinical judgment and prioritization
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and clear documentation
• Compassionate patient and family communication
