Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate, and efficient nursing care to patients in the Neuro Stepdown unit
• Perform thorough neuro-focused patient assessments and monitor telemetry and vital signs closely
• Administer medications and manage IV therapy according to orders and hospital policy
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team — physicians, therapists, and support staff — to coordinate patient care
• Document assessments, interventions, and care plans clearly and timely in the EMR
• Educate patients and families on condition, care plans, and discharge instructions with empathy and clarity
• Respond rapidly to changes in patient condition and escalate care when needed

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Louisiana (or compact RN license as applicable)
• Current BLS required; ACLS preferred or willingness to obtain
• Experience or comfort working in Neuro Stepdown / SDU settings preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to manage telemetry/complex patients
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills
• Willingness to work 12.5-hour shifts and adapt to unit staffing needs

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Neuro assessment and recognition of neurologic changes
• Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• IV medication administration and infusion pump management
• Familiarity with EMR charting and documentation best practices
• Critical thinking, prioritization, and rapid problem-solving
• Patient and family education with strong interpersonal skills
