Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care on the medical-surgical unit
• Perform thorough assessments and monitor patient status, escalating concerns promptly
• Administer medications and treatments safely, following ordered protocols
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care
• Document accurately in the electronic medical record and support efficient handoffs
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge plans
• Support unit flow by responding to admissions, discharges, and transfers with professionalism

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in Louisiana (or compact license as applicable)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS encouraged or preferred
• Comfortable working on a Med/Surg unit with strong clinical judgment
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; patient advocacy mindset
• Ability to safely manage medication administration and basic IV therapy
• Willingness to engage in unit-based education and orientation processes

Education

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• BSN preferred but ADN graduates encouraged to apply

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid clinical assessment and patient monitoring skills
• Familiarity with medical-surgical diagnoses, treatments, and post-op care
• Proficient documentation in electronic medical records and accurate charting
• Skill in medication administration, IV therapy, and basic wound care
• Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality
• Strong interpersonal skills for patient/family education and interdisciplinary collaboration
