Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to Med/Surg patients following established policies and protocols
• Perform thorough patient assessments and communicate findings clearly to the interdisciplinary team
• Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapy with precision and attention to safety
• Coordinate patient care, discharge planning, and patient education to support positive outcomes
• Document patient status, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the electronic health record
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and support staff to create and implement care plans
• Respond to patient needs and changes in condition promptly and escalate concerns appropriately
• Champion patient safety and infection prevention practices on the unit

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Louisiana or compact RN license as applicable
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS/PALS as required or preferred by unit
• Prior experience or demonstrated competency in Medical/Surgical nursing is preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills, medication administration experience, and familiarity with IV therapy
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively on a multidisciplinary team
• Ability to work rotating 12.5-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Completion of state-required continuing education and unit-specific competencies

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid understanding of Med/Surg nursing principles and inpatient care workflows
• Proficient with electronic health record (EHR) documentation and clinical charting
• Skilled in patient assessment, vital sign interpretation, and early recognition of deterioration
• Medication administration safety, dosage calculations, and IV pump management
• Strong time management, prioritization, and delegation skills in a fast-paced environment
• Commitment to patient-centered care and evidence-based practice
