Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert critical care nursing for high-acuity ICU patients, including ventilated and post-CABG patients
• Manage mechanical ventilation and perform continuous hemodynamic monitoring to optimize patient outcomes
• Deliver advanced cardiac and post-operative care for patients recovering from CABG and transplant procedures
• Collaborate closely with intensivists, surgeons, respiratory therapists, and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate safe, timely care
• Perform accurate, timely documentation in Meditech and participate in bedside shift reports with whiteboard updates
• Support unit policies, quality initiatives and infection control practices that keep patients safe
• Educate patients and families with compassion and clarity during stressful moments
• Step in confidently for CVICU/ECMO cases when needed and share expertise with peers

Qualifications

• Active Texas RN license required (temporary licenses will not be accepted)
• Minimum 2+ years of ICU experience (high-acuity/critical care experience preferred)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Strong experience with ventilator management and hemodynamic monitoring
• Post-CABG, CVICU, ECMO, heart transplant and CABG experience preferred
• Meditech documentation experience preferred
• Professional bedside manner and willingness to participate in bedside shift reports
• Ability to float to other ICUs occasionally and work rotating weekend schedule

Knowledge & Skills

• Mechanical ventilation and ventilator weaning principles
• Hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation of cardiac parameters
• Post-operative cardiac care (including post-CABG) and familiarity with transplant/CVICU populations
• ECMO basics and high-acuity critical care workflows
• Meditech electronic documentation
• CPR, BLS and ACLS protocols
• Strong interdisciplinary communication and patient/family education skills
• Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, high-acuity unit
