Shift Type: Primary coverage: Monday, Friday, Saturday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Day shift). Coverage notes: additional patterns include one psychiatrist Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM and one psychiatrist Tuesday–Friday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM; training expected Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management for patients in a substance abuse treatment setting
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that prioritize safety and recovery
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including nursing, counseling, and security to coordinate care
• Deliver training and mentorship to clinical staff (training expected Monday–Friday)
• Document assessments, treatment plans, and progress clearly and timely in the patient record
• Participate in coverage and registry duties to ensure continuity of care during vacancies
• Practice with compassion and maintain high standards for patient safety and ethical care

Qualifications

• Medical degree (MD or DO) with completed Psychiatry residency
• Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry (preferred)
• Active California medical license or eligibility to obtain licensure
• DEA registration or ability to obtain upon hire
• Experience treating mental health and substance use disorders; correctional or forensic experience a plus
• Demonstrated ability to train and mentor clinical staff

Education

• Medical degree (MD or DO) and completed Psychiatry residency

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong psychopharmacology knowledge and experience with medication management
• Risk assessment and crisis intervention skills
• Experience with behavioral health treatment modalities and substance use disorders
• Excellent clinical documentation and electronic medical record (EMR) skills
• Clear communication and teamwork in multidisciplinary settings
• Ability to work in structured, secure treatment environments
