Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, phlebotomy, and specimen collection accurately and compassionately
• Prepare exam rooms, assist providers during patient encounters, and ensure smooth patient flow
• Document patient information and clinical activities clearly in the electronic health record
• Administer basic treatments and assist with procedures under provider direction
• Maintain a safe, secure, and compliant environment appropriate for a correctional facility
• Communicate professionally with patients, custodial staff, and interdisciplinary team members
• Support infection control and quality standards through proper protocols and documentation
• Participate in the 2-week training to align with facility policies and clinical expectations

Qualifications

• Certification as a Medical Assistant (MA) or completion of an accredited MA program
• Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
• Comfortable working in a correctional facility setting and following security protocols
• Strong clinical skills: vital signs, specimen collection, basic clinical procedures
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• Preferred: prior clinical experience in ambulatory, correctional, or occupational health settings

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Medical Assistant certification or completion of an accredited MA program preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient with taking and recording vital signs and clinical measurements
• Skilled in specimen handling, point-of-care testing, and basic EKGs
• Familiarity with electronic health records and accurate clinical charting
• Knowledge of infection control, safety, and HIPAA regulations
• Ability to work calmly and professionally in a secure/correctional environment
• Strong patient communication, organization, and teamwork abilities
