Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform accurate transthoracic, M-mode and color-flow Doppler echocardiograms to provide actionable diagnostic information
• Conduct transesophageal, exercise stress and pharmacological echocardiography as ordered by physicians
• Administer and analyze EKGs, Holter preparations/monitoring and cardiac stress tests with attention to detail
• Operate and maintain cardiac diagnostic equipment and ensure proper disinfection and aseptic technique
• Use hospital information systems for scheduling, processing and correct documentation and charging of studies
• Provide age-specific care across the lifespan, including neonatal and pediatric patients, with compassion and skill
• Serve as a clinical preceptor to students and offer guidance consistent with education agreements
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams as a reliable professional resource

Qualifications

• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or two years hands-on echocardiography experience
• Experience with pediatric and neonatal echocardiography strongly preferred
• Comfortable working in a hospital setting with familiarity in scheduling and hospital information systems
• High school diploma or GED required; certificate program in cardiovascular sonography preferred

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Transthoracic 2-D imaging and M-Mode techniques
• Color-flow Doppler and Doppler imaging interpretation
• Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) procedures
• Exercise and pharmacological stress echocardiography
• Electrocardiogram (EKG/ECG) acquisition and Holter monitoring
• Cardiac stress testing protocols and operation of stress systems
• Operation and troubleshooting of echocardiographs and cardiac diagnostic equipment
• Infection control practices, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection
• Clinical preceptorship, teaching and effective communication with clinical teams
• Scheduling, processing and accurate documentation within hospital information systems
