Roles & Responsibilities

• Introduce yourself and verify patient identity using two forms of ID, explaining procedures with empathy and clarity
• Perform cardiac diagnostic imaging including 2D and Doppler echocardiography to evaluate heart anatomy and hemodynamics
• Run online calculations to quantify cardiac function and hemodynamics, ensuring accurate and timely data
• Report and discuss abnormal findings with cardiologists and take appropriate patient-safety actions
• Assist cardiologists during transesophageal echocardiograms and coordinate imaging needs
• Operate stress testing equipment and perform 12-lead EKGs when required
• Use echo PACS and other imaging systems, troubleshoot issues, and contact technical support when needed
• Maintain clean, disinfected equipment and manage routine supply ordering to keep the lab running smoothly
• Prioritize requests, coordinate with healthcare team members, and step into lead responsibilities when needed

Qualifications

• ARDMS credentialed as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) with AE specialty (required)
• Current BLS certification (required)
• Formal training from an accredited medical sonography program specializing in cardiac sonography
• Minimum five years of experience in cardiac sonography with practical RDCS AE experience
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and comfort working with multidisciplinary teams
• Familiarity with JCAHO guidelines and echo PACS systems

Education

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Formal training from an accredited medical sonography program specializing in cardiac sonography

Knowledge & Skills

• Echocardiography: 2D imaging and Doppler modalities
• Transesophageal echocardiography support and intra-procedure assistance
• Cardiac hemodynamics assessment and interpretation
• 12-lead EKG acquisition and stress testing operation
• Proficiency with echo PACS and basic troubleshooting of imaging equipment
• Patient identification, preparation, and clear patient communication
• Equipment cleaning, disinfection, and safe handling practices
• Good computer skills and strong documentation habits
