Roles & Responsibilities

• Process patient specimens accurately and efficiently to support timely diagnosis
• Perform testing across chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, blood bank, microbiology, and clinical microscopy
• Operate and maintain laboratory analyzers and bench instrumentation with care
• Document and report test results in compliance with regulatory and facility policies
• Perform quality control, troubleshooting, and calibration to ensure reliable results
• Collaborate with clinicians and the lab team to prioritize tests and support patient care
• Maintain meticulous records and participate in competency assessments and QA activities
• Support 24-hour laboratory coverage by working assigned night rotations, weekends, and holidays

Qualifications

• Medical Laboratory Scientist: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus required coursework (48 semester hours in medical lab/clinical lab science or equivalent coursework with specified chemistry and biology hours)
• Medical Laboratory Technician: High school diploma/GED plus approved military medical laboratory course or at least 60 semester hours with required lab/science coursework
• Certification requirement: Obtain nationally recognized MLT or MLS certification within 18 months of hire and maintain active, unexpired certification
• Experience: MLT — minimum 6 months documented bench experience across blood bank, microbiology, chemistry and hematology; MLS — minimum 1 year approved clinical laboratory experience including rotations through key specialties
• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays and occasional overtime
• Strong attention to detail, regulatory compliance mindset (JCAHO/CLIA familiarity preferred), and good communication skills

Education

• Medical Laboratory Scientist: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus required laboratory coursework (see job specifics for chemistry and biology hour requirements)
• Medical Laboratory Technician: High school diploma/GED plus approved military medical laboratory procedures course OR 60 semester hours with required lab/science coursework

Knowledge & Skills

• Hands-on bench experience in specimen processing and test result reporting
• Technical proficiency in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, blood bank, microbiology and clinical microscopy
• Familiarity with lab instrumentation, quality control, and troubleshooting
• Experience working in hospital inpatient/outpatient laboratory environments
• Understanding of regulatory requirements and a JCAHO environment
• Ability to document accurately in a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and follow SOPs
• Teamwork, time management, and patient-focused service
