Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM Day shift (5x8-hour schedule, no evenings or weekend call)
Hours per Week: 40
Candidate Pay Rate: $77 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Gross surgical specimens and biopsies with care and precision, including moderately complex resections
- Prepare and process tissues for histology, ensuring specimens are ready for accurate diagnosis
- Perform specimen accessioning, fixation, labeling and receipt with meticulous attention to detail
- Section surgical pathology specimens and assist with gross examination and dissection of large/complex cases
- Select tissue for karyotyping from products of conception and assist with limited research tissue procurement
- Document findings and maintain accurate records in EPIC/Beaker to support patient care and lab workflow
- Assist and train pathology residents in gross room techniques — mentor the next generation of lab pros
- Support tumor triage and coordinate with lab teams to maintain high-quality specimen handling
Qualifications
- PA (ASCP) certification required
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience grossing biopsies and moderately complex resections
- NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant education required OR MD Pathologist with grossing experience
- Experience with EPIC/Beaker charting systems preferred
- Comfort working primarily with benign surgical pathology specimens and occasional cancer resections
- Background check and medical screening (including vaccinations) required prior to start
- Teaching hospital or research/teaching institution experience is a plus
- Able to work the posted day shift schedule; no autopsy duties and no evening/weekend call
Education
- NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program required, or MD Pathologist with grossing experience
Knowledge & Skills
- Surgical pathology and macroscopic description of gross anatomic features
- Gross examination, dissection and sectioning of surgical specimens
- Specimen accessioning, fixation, handling and labeling best practices
- Preparation of tissues for histological processing and familiarity with histology workflows
- Experience with EPIC and Beaker laboratory/charting systems
- Tumor triage, specimen radiography and reporting test results
- Basic familiarity with immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, image analysis and electron microscopy (preferred)
- Strong attention to detail, clear documentation skills and ability to teach gross room techniques
