Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders with evidence-based approaches
- Develop individualized treatment plans and measurable goals to help patients make meaningful progress
- Collaborate with therapists, nurses, physicians, and families to coordinate care and optimize outcomes
- Provide clear, professional documentation of evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers on strategies and carryover activities to support rehabilitation
- Participate in team meetings and contribute clinical expertise to interdisciplinary care planning
Qualifications
- Current or eligible New Mexico SLP license required
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent (see Education section)
- ASHA CCC-SLP preferred
- Current BLS/CPR certification preferred
- Comfort working with diverse populations across the lifespan in a rehabilitation/contract setting
- Background check and up-to-date immunizations as required by facility
Education
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders required
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency in standardized and informal assessment tools for speech, language, cognition, and swallowing
- Skilled in dysphagia evaluation and intervention strategies
- Experience with treatment planning, goal writing, and outcome measurement
- Strong interdisciplinary communication and patient/family education skills
- Familiarity with electronic health records and accurate documentation practices
- Ability to adapt therapy approaches to individual needs and cultural contexts
