Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing care in a PCU/Stepdown setting, prioritizing patient safety
- Titrate vasoactive drips safely and accurately while closely monitoring patient responses
- Manage IVs and central lines, including PICC, A-line and dialysis fistula care
- Provide advanced airway support when needed (CPAP/BiPAP and tracheostomy care)
- Operate and troubleshoot common equipment: IV pumps, PCA pumps, SCDs, vapotherm/optiflow
- Perform feeding tube management, wound/Vac care, and epidural/PCA pump monitoring
- Float to support different patient populations across the unit with professionalism
- Communicate clearly with multidisciplinary teams and document care thoroughly
Qualifications
- Active RN license in Missouri or compact multistate eligibility
- Current BLS certification required
- Experience in PCU/Stepdown, critical care monitoring, or similar acute care settings
- Comfortable with vasoactive drip titration and advanced line management (PICC/A-Line/Central)
- Familiarity with CPAP/BiPAP, trach care, PCA/epidural pumps, feeding tubes and wound vacs
- Ability to float across the unit and adapt to varied patient types (surgical, medical, neuro)
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
- Active RN license (Missouri or compact eligibility)
Knowledge & Skills
- PCU/Stepdown nursing practices and critical care monitoring
- Vasoactive drip titration and hemodynamic assessment
- IV insertion, PICC and central line management, A-line care
- Dialysis fistula care and vascular access maintenance
- Airway management including CPAP/BiPAP and tracheostomy care
- PCA/epidural pump management and feeding tube protocols
- Wound vac care and post-surgical patient management
- Cardiac monitoring basics: obtaining 12-lead EKGs, CVP awareness, cardioversion/defibrillation (preferred)
