Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality inpatient oncology and hematology care to adult patients with compassion and clinical excellence
• Manage and coordinate inpatient treatment plans, including chemotherapy and supportive care, using EPIC for documentation
• Perform timely inpatient consultations and facilitate safe transitions to outpatient follow-up when covering vacation clinics
• Collaborate closely with nursing staff, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
• Communicate clearly and empathetically with patients and families about diagnosis, treatment options, and goals of care
• Participate in handoffs, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to support continuous care improvements

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree, completed residency and fellowship in Medical Oncology and/or Hematology
• Board certified or board eligible in Medical Oncology/Hematology
• Active Virginia medical license or ability to obtain state licensure in a timely manner
• Current ACLS and BLS certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
• Proven experience with inpatient oncology care; outpatient coverage experience a plus
• Familiarity with EPIC for documentation and order entry
• Previous locum tenens or temporary coverage experience preferred but not required
• Strong communication skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team

Education

• MD or DO required; fellowship training in Medical Oncology/Hematology required

Knowledge & Skills

• In-depth knowledge of oncology and hematology clinical management for adult patients
• Comfortable managing chemotherapy regimens, supportive care, and inpatient oncology complications
• Proficient with EPIC electronic medical records and clinical documentation
• Excellent clinical judgment, triage skills, and ability to prioritize in a busy inpatient setting
• Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and coordinate care transitions
• Strong patient communication and family counseling skills
